David Kozak

David R. Kozak, AScT. Born in Alberta but raised in the BC Lower Mainland, David spent his early years raised in North Delta playing rep softball, street hockey, and soccer. His family moved out to a small farm in South Langley in the late 70’s where he learned to wake early, clear undergrowth, bail hay, and shovel manure. Farming provided a solid base for his work ethic but it was pretty clear to David that he’d need a good education if he wanted to find a career that would be more forgiving on his body.

David attended Kwantlen College Technology Centre where he obtained his Diploma of Civil Engineering Technology in the mid 80’s.

David’s first contract job was as a rodman on a survey crew doing survey and cutting line between Salmon Arm and Sicamous. Ironically, the job required working 60 hours weeks clearing undergrowth on steep slopes under brutal temperatures. Recognizing that this seemed to have a number of similarities to the farm work in his youth, he quickly moved on to work for the City of Richmond for two years where he learned manual drafting and working within a government bureaucracy.

Through the late 80’s and into the late 90’s David worked for a few private Civil Engineering companies specializing in land development projects. Through these years he had the opportunity to design sewers and watermains, local roads and highways, stormwater detention, pump stations, and septic fields. He also gained expertise in modeling stormwater management, and in master community infrastructure planning.

Having always had a love for computer programming since high school, David make a career shift in the late 90’s to the software industry where he had an opportunity to work for a division of HealthVision (now Allscripts) and ComVida.com. He assisted in the development and testing of several financial and patient management applications for the health care industry.

Between 2000 and 2007 David started his own company that built custom software solutions for Enterprise level Tool Management as well as Custom Cross-Border Shipping Software. The business also provided sub-consultant engineering services for a private Civil Engineering company where he designed over a hundred small to medium sized land development projects.

In November 2007 David, Bruce, and Aleksandar founded Core Concept Consulting.

From 2002 to 2008, David had the privilege to serve on the Board of Directors for the Surrey German Language School and has also been a member of the Microsoft Small Business Advisory Panel since 2006.

On the home front David and his wife Judy run a ‘definitely-not-for-profit’ shuttle service transporting their teenagers between home and Air Cadets, German School, Piano lessons, Horseback Riding, and other events.
